Victoria Tower Gardens lies at the heart of Westminster, bordered by the Houses of Parliament, the River Thames, Millbank and Lambeth Bridge. There has been a playground in the Gardens since 1923 when local philanthropist, Mr Henry Gage Spicer funded the installation of a large sandpit. A significant Phase I refurbishment project was undertaken at the playground during early 2013. The project included the installation of a sand pit, water play feature, boardwalk, swings, a slide and additional seating. Phase 2 is set to begin this year and Woodscape is looking forward to being part of this prestigious scheme once again.
Solution
The design of the gardens draws on imagery associated with the nearby River Thames and the history of Victoria Tower Gardens as a former shipping wharf. The versatile Woodscape Seat Type 1 was chosen for this scheme in both straight and curved configurations. Different heights of seating offer choices for different age groups of children and parents alike.
Benefit
Woodscape’s furniture offers a high-quality and modern finish for this scheme which has a heavy footfall of families due to being one of the only parks in the area.
